The peptide was described in the 1970s as a component of thymic extracts, and early research focused on restoring immune function in immunodeficiency states. A synthetic version entered clinical development in the 1980s and is approved as a drug in several countries for conditions such as chronic hepatitis B and certain immunodeficiencies. Approval status varies widely by jurisdiction, and in the United States it is not an approved therapeutic. Regulatory and clinical positions differ, so statements about efficacy should be tied to specific indications and studies.
Thymosin alpha-1 is a synthetic peptide of 28 amino acids, corresponding to the N-terminal fragment of prothymosin alpha. Its sequence begins with acetylation at the N-terminus, a modification that affects stability and receptor interaction. The peptide is acidic, with a calculated isoelectric point near 4.2, and carries no disulfide bonds, so its secondary structure is largely flexible in solution. Molecular mass is approximately 3108 daltons. The native form was first isolated from bovine thymus tissue, while pharmaceutical material is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis.
Immunological studies connect the peptide to multiple parts of the immune response. It has been reported to engage Toll-like receptor signaling, to promote dendritic cell maturation, and to influence the balance of T helper cell subsets. Changes in natural killer cell activity and in cytokine release appear in cell culture and animal models. These observations describe broad immunomodulatory behavior rather than a single defined receptor target, and the primary molecular interaction has not been settled.
Thymosin alpha-1 is a synthetic 28-amino-acid peptide whose sequence was first identified in extracts of bovine thymus tissue during the 1970s. The chain carries an acetyl group on its N-terminal serine. Its acidic residue content is high, which produces strong water solubility and an isoelectric point well below neutrality. Material supplied for laboratory and clinical use is manufactured by solid-phase peptide synthesis rather than purified from animal tissue. Different salt forms, such as the acetate, alter the counter-ion content without changing the peptide backbone.
Whether the free 28-residue peptide circulates in human tissue remains debated. The best-documented human source is prothymosin alpha, a larger acidic protein that carries the sequence at its N-terminus. Reports of measurable peptide levels in serum and lymphoid tissue exist, yet some of that signal may come from cross-reacting fragments or from the parent protein. Most reviews therefore treat prothymosin alpha as the established human molecule and describe independent circulation of the small peptide as an unresolved question.

Overall evidence quality varies considerably. A large share of published reports come from single centers, rely on surrogate immunological markers, or lack adequate control groups. Systematic reviews have highlighted this heterogeneity as a barrier to pooling results. Open questions include which patients, if any, might benefit, what treatment duration is appropriate, and whether any effect is independent of standard care. The peptide is often described as an immune modulator rather than a therapy for one disease, which complicates confirmatory trial design.
Thymosin alpha 1 was identified in 1977 as a component of thymosin fraction 5, a heterogeneous preparation used in early studies of thymic function. Investigators purified the active material and determined its amino acid sequence, which enabled chemical synthesis. Work in the following decades concentrated on T-cell maturation and immune reconstitution in animals and small human cohorts. Early preparations varied in composition, so results from that period are difficult to compare with studies using defined synthetic peptide.
The peptide is generated in cells by cleavage of prothymosin alpha, a larger acidic protein encoded by the PTMA gene. Prothymosin alpha is expressed in many tissues, not only in the thymus, and its functions include nuclear roles in chromatin-related processes. The 28-residue fragment corresponds to the N-terminal portion of that precursor. How the cleavage occurs and how the fragment's concentration is regulated remain open questions; circulating amounts are small and difficult to measure reliably with routine assays.
Thymosin alpha 1 is a short peptide first isolated from bovine thymus tissue in the early 1970s during fractionation work aimed at identifying factors that influence T cell development. It belongs to a family of acidic thymic peptides, and the original preparations contained several components that were later separated by chromatography. The compound is now produced synthetically rather than extracted from tissue, which removes batch variability tied to animal sourcing. Researchers describe it as an immunomodulatory peptide because laboratory studies show effects on several cell types of the innate and adaptive immune systems.
Iran hit Stryker, a US-based medical supply company with a cyberattack. On 12 March, UNICEF reported that 300 children had been killed, thousands injured, hundreds of thousands displaced, and millions unable to attend schools due to the war. Iranian deputy intelligence minister Akbar Ghaffari was killed in an airstrike. An Iranian attack set two tankers on fire off the Iraqi coast, killing one person. The historical Safavid-era building of Rashk-e Jenan, was destroyed by US-Israeli strikes. Other buildings damaged included the Chehel Sotoun pavilion, Rakib Khaneh Mansion, Timurid Hall, Ashraf Hall and the Ali Qapu palace. Many affected buildings and monuments were legally protected by the Blue Shield International, which called damaging them a war crime. French soldiers were injured in a drone strike at a base in Iraqi Kurdistan. French president Emmanuel Macron announced on 13 March that a soldier was killed in the attack. On 13 March, to alleviate the economic costs of the war, the US temporarily lifted restrictions on the sale of Russian oil. Iran announced a coordinated offensive by its navy, army, and Hezbollah against Israel and US bases. Israel reported that 58 people have been hospitalized due to injuries following a missile strike. Kuwait authorities stated that defense equipment and the country's main airport were attacked, and power lines gone out of service. Missiles entered Turkish air space and were intercepted, with explosions heard near Adana. Israel struck IRGC checkpoints after receiving tip-offs by informants on the ground.

C6H12O6 + 6 O2 → 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + Energy The process of cellular respiration also depends heavily on the reduction of NAD+ to NADH and the reverse reaction (the oxidation of NADH to NAD+). Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are complementary, but photosynthesis is not the reverse of the redox reaction in cellular respiration:
==== Price regulations ==== In a bid to lower soaring gas prices, Castillo reintroduced liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund (FEPC). The FEPC was created in 2002 and serves as a price support by giving a range of minimum and maximum consumer prices. In theory, the FEPC is self-sustaining. Should the price of gas be above the maximum consumer price, the FEPC will subsidize the cost for consumers. If the price of gas is below the minimum consumer price, then the profits will be given to the FEPC. However, LPG was removed from the FEPC in 2020, due to financial costs and scepticism on whether consumer prices were affected by the fiscal intervention. The reintroduction of LPG to the FEPC by Castillo reversed the 2020 policy decision. Additionally, while Pedro Castillo's Economic Minister Pedro Francke and then Prime Minister Guido Bellido have denied any plans to institute price controls, the Free Peru caucus later attempted to modify the constitution to implement them. The amendment would have allowed the state to regulate the "supply and prices of goods and services produced by public and private companies" due to shortages or a state of emergency. However, the amendment failed to pass within the opposition-controlled Congress.
Furthermore, a deficiency in GIP receptors has been associated in mice with a dramatic decrease in bone quality and a subsequent increase in fracture risk. However, the results of the two groups' studies were non-concordant.

=== United States and Canada === Methadone is a Schedule I controlled substance in Canada and Schedule II in the United States, with an ACSCN of 9250 and a 2014 annual aggregate manufacturing quota of 31,875 kilos for sale. Methadone intermediate is also controlled, under ACSCN 9226 also under Schedule II, with a quota of 38,875 kilos. In most countries of the world, methadone is similarly restricted. The salts of methadone in use are the hydrobromide (free base conversion ratio 0.793), hydrochloride (0.894), and HCl monohydrate (0.850). Methadone is also regulated internationally as a Schedule I controlled substance under the United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961.
NASA's aim for food on the ISS is to make the experience as close as possible to that of Earth, and they aim to provide more acceptable and palatable foods. Modern astronauts have a greater variety of main courses to choose from and many astronauts request personalized menus from lists of available foods including items like fruit salad and spaghetti. Fresh fruits and vegetables that can be safely stored at room temperature are eaten on space flights. Astronauts sometimes request beef jerky for flights, as it has an extended shelf life and a strong flavor. Food on the ISS is similar to the Shuttle, in that it is individually packaged to allow for exchanges and prevent issues in the microgravity environment. Due to the limited water supply, an emphasis has been placed on thermostabilized foods rather than rehydration methods. Since 2002, the small LADA Greenhouse system (the leaf chamber is just 16 x 20 x 26 cm/6 x 8 x 10 inches) has been used on board the International Space Station to study how plants grow in microgravity and to grow edible vegetables for the astronauts. LADA includes a control module and was sent to the station already equipped with the root media for the plants to be grown and eaten in space.
CaMKII has multiple modes of activation to cause the incorporation of AMPA receptors into the perisynaptic membrane. CAMKII enzyme is eventually responsible for the development of the actin cytoskeleton of neuronal cells and, eventually, for the dendrite and axon development (synaptic plasticity). The first is direct phosphorylation of synaptic-associated protein 97 (SAP97), a scaffolding protein. First, SAP-97 and Myosin-VI, a motor protein, are bound as a complex to the C-terminus of AMPARs. Following phosphorylation by CaMKII, the complex moves into the perisynaptic membrane. The second mode of activation is through the MAPK pathway. CaMKII activates the Ras proteins, which go on to activate p42/44 MAPK, which drives AMPAR insertion directly into the perisynaptic membrane.
=== Late modern botany === Building upon the gene-chromosome theory of heredity that originated with Gregor Mendel (1822–1884), August Weismann (1834–1914) proved that inheritance only takes place through gametes. No other cells can pass on inherited characters. The work of Katherine Esau (1898–1997) on plant anatomy is still a major foundation of modern botany. Her books Plant Anatomy and Anatomy of Seed Plants have been key plant structural biology texts for more than half a century.

It corresponds to a fragment of the larger protein prothymosin alpha, which is present in many tissues. The isolated 28-amino-acid peptide was originally obtained from thymus preparations, and the pharmaceutical product is synthesized rather than extracted. The term therefore describes both a natural fragment and a manufactured drug substance.
Thymosin alpha-1 is a single defined 28-residue peptide, while the broader family includes unrelated peptides such as thymosin beta-4. The shared name reflects historical isolation from thymus tissue rather than a common structure. Confusion between the two is common in older literature.
No single pathway fully accounts for its reported effects. Several studies describe interaction with innate immune receptors and downstream cytokine changes, but the complete picture is not settled. Open questions remain about which effects occur at physiological concentrations.
It is usually described as an immunomodulatory peptide rather than a classic circulating hormone. No endocrine gland is known to release it as a primary secretory product, and its measured presence in blood is not firmly established.
